Who AI Overviews cite most
Every time an AI Overview appeared, we recorded the domains it linked as sources. This is the ranking that matters for generative engine optimization: these are the sites Google’s AI trusts enough to quote. Counted as the number of tracked queries where each domain was cited.

Methodology
- Each week, every query in a fixed, curated set is run through Google (United States, English) via a SERP data provider, and we record whether the result page contains an AI Overview and which domains that overview cites.
- The query set is deliberately broad — everyday informational and commercial searches across ten industries — so the headline percentage reflects a representative mix, not a cherry-picked one. It is a fixed sample, not the whole of Google, so read it as direction and contrast, not a population-wide figure.
- AI Overviews are personalized and volatile: Google shows them inconsistently by location, account, and moment. A single weekly snapshot per query captures the trend over time, not the guaranteed state of any one search.
- Citation counts tally the number of tracked queries in which a domain appeared as a source, counting each domain once per query.
